I recently made one of our family’s favorite desserts, with the help of Dylan and Penny, of course! I came across this recipe for a caramel turtle candy tart years ago in a magazine. It is rich, decadent, and pretty easy to make. It has always been a hit, and it is one of my husband Mark’s most requested desserts.
The girls were great assistants, particularly with the smashing of the graham crackers for the crust. Note that the recipe calls for chocolate graham crackers. I sometimes use those, but other times use regular grahams. It is equally delicious both ways.
One change I make in this caramel candy tart is omitting the corn syrup. I haven’t detected any problem or change in the caramel consistency with leaving it out.
I also noticed the website link doesn’t specify an amount of granulated sugar for the crust. My paper recipe from the magazine indicates 1/3 cup.
The girls’ favorite part was licking the bowl after making the chocolate ganache! Can’t say I blame them there!
