Dylan Update 1.10.20

We just returned home from treatment #2 in Mexico. Dylan again seemed to tolerate the treatment well, which was a relief. Spending a night in a Mexican hospital makes us appreciate the comforts of home. It’s clean and everyone is very nice, but it’s quite spartan. We are becoming better users of Google translate, which is helping with the communication barrier. We are also becoming more familiar with the city of Monterrey and are tentatively set to go back in early February for a third treatment.

As someone who is very much a homebody, all this travel and being on the go has taken some getting used to. There are many times I just long for normalcy in my life. I’m sure we will get there again someday, but I don’t know what that will look like. In the meantime, I’ll gladly battle out of my normal comfort zone if it benefits Dylan.

Leaving Mason a week out of every month also brings its own challenges. He seems a bit off when we return, and I fear he feels left out of the family. I know he’d love to join us, and we do plan on bringing him sometime, but for now, he is best served going to school and playing basketball. We try to explain it’s really not a “fun” trip.

We will keep moving forward and pray that the Mexico treatments continue to buy Dylan the time we need for her to participate in the CAR-T trial. For now, I’m thankful that she seems to be stable and is showing us a lot of sass. She’s making us laugh daily, loves playing Guess Who with Mason and Penny, and looks forward to her weekly visits with Jeri, her preschool teacher. As I’ve always said, when Dylan is doing well, I’m doing well. We are appreciating the good days. #betternotbitter
