Our Thoughts on the Pandemic

It may seem odd, but we are taking some comfort in the shutdown and pause the world is currently taking. We certainly don’t take lightly COVID-19 and it’s implications, and we are just as scared and worried as the rest of the world about it. ⁣

But our lives have essentially been on hold since Dylan was diagnosed with DIPG in August of 2018. We have lived in a fight or flight state since that moment. Maybe the old saying, “misery loves company” is the most apt here, but it is a bit nice knowing that now we aren’t feeling like the only ones missing out on things anymore. The only ones taking a break and sitting out. The only ones that can’t plan for the future with any certainty. ⁣

Hunker down and be safe. Enjoy this time as much as you can with your family. Think of the families that are worried not only about getting through this, but also watching their child decline at the same time. The majority of us will likely make it through this if we follow appropriate precautions, but the survival rate for DIPG is less than 1%. ⁣
