As I was perusing the Amazon generated playlist, “Your Top Songs of 2019,” I started thinking about the joy that music brings. So often, we start playing music in the house, and it doesn’t take long before a dance party breaks out and everyone is singing and having fun. Both Dylan and Mason love music and have favorite songs they typically request.
The month before Dylan was diagnosed, Jeff and I went to a Vance Joy concert with Jamie and Brandon at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA. I remember thinking how life was finally getting easier, as Dylan was old enough to leave with grandparents without being too much work for them. It was a warm July night, and the concert was magical. I love Vance Joy’s music and even the thought of that concert still brings me joy.
Soon after Dylan was diagnosed with DIPG, we were able to attend the Florida Georgia Line concert at the Washington State Fair. We had become fans of the band after the kids discovered many of their music videos. Thanks to the efforts of several friends, we had the opportunity to meet the band. They were so kind and generously gifted the kids with some autographed items. The concert was amazing as well!
Music continues to be a big part of our lives, bringing us joy daily. Here are some of our top bands and songs we love.
*Anything by Vance Joy – if you haven’t listened to him, just do it. I suggest starting with Riptide, Saturday Sun, Georgia, Fire and the Flood – I could go on and on!
*Florida Georgia Line – also just about anything! We’ve never been huge country fans, but that is slowly changing. Cruise, Simple, This is How We Roll, and Dylan’s personal favorite, Round Here, are good places to start.
*Imagine Dragons – music from this band crept in later in the year, and while many of their songs aren’t new, we enjoy most all of them. Jeff and Mason love Whatever It Takes and It’s Time. I discovered West Coast recently and loved it. Dylan’s favorite is Believer.
*Old Town Road – it pains me to list this as a top song, but Mason and Dylan loved this song throughout the year, so it ended up on our most-played list.
*Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot – I introduced the kids to this, and Dylan laughs and laughs as we “shake that healthy butt”. 😊
*Dance, Dance, Dance by the Steve Miller Band – Dylan loves this song and loves to dance with Jeff and me to it.
